proxmox-backup-sync — last updated 3 October 2026
proxmox-backup-sync is a private backup tool run by one person, Fabian Modig, on his own home server. It has no other users.
The application requests access to the Google Drive of the single Google Account that authorises it — the operator's own account. It uses that access only to:
It does not read, move or delete anything else in the Drive.
The uploaded files are backups of the operator's own virtual machines, containers and server configuration. They contain only his own data. No data is collected from any other person, and the application has no users other than its operator.
The OAuth refresh token obtained during authorisation is stored in a file on the operator's own server, readable only by that machine's administrator account. It is deliberately excluded from the backups the tool uploads.
Backup archives stay in the Drive folder until a newer backup replaces them, at which point they are deleted. Deleted files follow Google Drive's normal trash behaviour.
Access can be revoked at any time from Google Account permissions, which immediately stops all further uploads.
